2008 Tri-Athlete Journey

Posted by: trihamilton on: January 20, 2009

As I reflect on my journey of becoming a tri-athlete:

I learned:

…that I can make time to fit training into my busy life.

…that becoming a friend was more important than winning the race.

…that I have a gift to inspire…even those that are reluctant.

…how to swim! I’ve never taken a swim lesson and was so intimidate by the swim part and now I can swim 500 yards without stopping !

…that I still have the drive, determination, and competitiveness I had before I let age, weight, stress, and depression beat me down.

…that I am not alone and never was.

…that I am stronger that I thought I was.

…to listen to my inner voice and gather the people around me to enable me to reach my goals.

…that you can push your body a little more than you think.

…to take care of myself so I can take care of others in my life.

…to believe

…that things are not overwhelming if you take it piece by piece.

I never thought I could:

…be a tri-athlete.

…enjoy exercise!

…have hope.

…do a triathlon and with Tri It For Life, I would have never attempted.

…do ANY cardio.  I have exercise induced asthma, and as scary as it was – I did it!

…stay committed to physical fitness as a full time working mom.

…teach others to have confidence in their abilities and bodies.

I am most proud of:

…my color coordinated outfit.  I look good and match!

…my sister becoming a tri-athlete.

…doing the race with my 11 year old daughter.

…the women in this group.  Those that have the courage to do something they never thought they could.

…all my training – where I came from and where I will go in the future.

…that even though I had a lung removed at birth – my pediatrician that saved my life would be so proud of me!

…that I took the chance to make myself better both physically and mentally.

…changing my goals – 1st I wanted to finish, then not stop, then do it under 1 hour!

Leslie Allison – Ramblin’ Rose – 2007

Posted by: triitforlife on: March 31, 2008

Hi I’m Leslie Allison.   Have you had a good day?  As you would expect, I started my day with a swim this morning and then rode my bike for 25 miles…just another day! Right, Ladies?

My friend, Mary Magee, says I should have been a preacher, so soon, you might have some idea as to why she says this to me!  I was asked to share a few words about my Ramblin’ Rose experience, but this is certainly not about ME, its all about US!    I wouldn’t be up here if it weren’t for all of you.  As I describe my experience, it may sound very similar to your’s.  So, if I strike a nerve or start describing your very same experience, it would be encouraging if you would just raise your hand, or nod your head, or even shout AMEN!  Whatever the Spirit leads you to do!!  AMEN???

Vicki Gail – Motivational Speech – October 4, 2007

Posted by: triitforlife on: March 31, 2008

So, we’re in the final stretch before Sunday’s race.  We’ve got 60 hours left until race time. Are you nervous? Anxious? Scared? Excited? It’s perfectly normal to feel this way. Even the mentors here will tell you that they still feel that way before every race. It’s to be expected.

Let’s talk about race morning a little bit. On Sunday morning, you may find that you fall into one of three different types of race “Worriers”.
